Meeting SG BKM
Yesterday, after his visit in Berlin, UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon visited the city of Bonn. Later that afternoon, he visited the UN Campus in Bonn and went to the plenary hall to meet the staff from 17 UN organizations and specialized agencies based in the city.
After
waiting waiting for more than 30 minutes, inaantok na nga ako, he
entered the plenary and the staff welcomed him together with his wife.
He gave a short speech and answered a few questions.
I was
seating on the 3rd row and I was only a few meters away from him. He
has this calm aura. Although not the best speaker you can come across
with, he spoke as if he is speaking with you personally. He gave me the
impression that he has leveled himself to reach out with us.
His
message was good, encouraging us to 'change our lifestyle' to help in
saving the environment, one of his top priorities. He has also told us
that we represent the organization and therefore should help in
strengthening ties with the people, since some has doubts on the UN's
role.
Since I started temping with the Climate Change
Secretariat last year, I have became aware of the seriousness of the
issue and saw how each country cooperate, although not everyone, to
help adapt to climate change. I have also became aware of the UN's role
to the world and realized how important it is. And I believe that Mr.
Ban is right, we should start the change in us and be an example to
everyone.
Before he left, a group picture was taken. (Maliit lang ang picture na nakuha. Gudlak kung makita n'yo ko. hehehe.)
Picture above is property of UN Bonn.
